Though its sturdy claws may look impressive, in truth, a wild Maine lobster has reaches adulthood only against great odds. It is estimated that a mere 1% of lobster eggs survive the harrowing race to maturity; to do so, they must first endure nearly a year before hatching, during which they adhere (along with 10,000 or so siblings) to a special area beneath the mother’s tail. They are then released as larvae, and drift about in the water column in search of a place to anchor, and seek safety from the predators who hope to snatch them up. We humans are not alone in craving the succulent lobster; sculpin, cunner, cod, skates, and even other lobsters all love to make a meal of the shrimp-like morsels. During this crucial phase of growth, the young lobsters must molt four times, after which they begin to resemble their parents and can make their way to the depths.
A lobster that does manage to reach the ocean floor quickly secures a rocky hiding place, or risks being devoured. In spite of their lobster-like appearance, larvae at this stage they are still without defenses and vulnerable to predation. Once hidden, the lobster spends the next few years snatching what prey it can from its protected home, avoiding the open water whenever possible. Around its fourth year, however, having grown in size and strength, the lobster begins to emerge, boldly capturing small creatures that may be twice its size!
Throughout this process, the young lobster must keep molting, as its hard shell does not stretch or grow. While all lobsters grow at different rates, it is known that those in cold water grow more slowly than their warm-water-dwelling cousins, and that males grow faster than females. Interestingly, lobsters are also unique in that they show no signs of aging, meaning that unless they fall sick or are injured or eaten, there is no limit to how long they could theoretically live, or how big they could grow. The lobster’s properties have even led scientists to study it in search of clues that could increase human longevity.
By the time a Maine lobster is hauled up in a lobsterpot, it has made it through at least five years of life, since the average lobster takes five to seven years to reach maturity. It is no wonder, then, that the lobster is so highly prized; with only ten out of ten thousand surviving the long years to adulthood, this is not a creature that can be easily farmed or quickly harvested. While it has long been world-renowned as a king among seafood dishes, the lobster also brings a fascinating saga to the plate, and is truly a centerpiece not only for its lovely scarlet color and creamy meat, but for the wild, wonderful story of its life.

Public Speaking - Get Your Audience Interested With The Right Stories
Any normal speech can be enriched with stories. Finding and selecting interesting will take some time and effort but the results make it worthwhile.
Where to Find Interesting Stories
The primary source of human interest stories will be from your own life experience. By being a keen observer of life you will build up a storehouse of stories that can be used in your speeches.
In addition to this the speaker can use stories they have heard, read or watched. The daily newspapers are an excellent source, and in most cases they can relied on to be true. The stories that will probably be most useful for public speaking engagements will be the smaller items, not those that make the headline news. Other great sources are biographies, literature and history.
The internet can be another great source of stories. But two cautions are that the stories maybe too well known to be effective and the internet can be an unreliable source as regards to accuracy.
Select Stories That Fit Your Subject
The stories chosen should be relevant to your speech, illustrate or prove the point that is being made. Stories that do not relate to your topic or point will distract the audience and confuse your message.
Use Fresh or Unusual Stories
The stories used do not have to be unique to your speech but avoid stories that have been told and re-told many times. For example, if you wanted to illustrating determination and courage the story of Columbus would appear to be a great story for that purpose. It has the potential to fall flat because it has been told so many times that your listeners maybe over-familiar with it. An alternative story to illustrate this would be Fridtjof Nansen's 3 year battle to find the North Pole.
Please Tell Us More!
The stories told should leave the audience wanting more. Don't use stories that leave your listener's saying "so What?" For example a story along the lines of
"A boy meets a girl. They fall in love. They are getting married next month." The listener's reaction is "So What?"
But by adding the following to the story:-

A Teen Weight Loss Success Story
Unique ways may appeal to more teenagers as they not only want to look at losing weight as something that they have to do instead of being something that they really want to do. Once they enjoy doing it, they have an increased likelihood of keeping it up and become more successful in trying to lose weight.
But how can you make losing weight more fun? Well, exciting activities that appeal to the teenager will likely do it. There is a story of a certain teenage girl who lost weight simply by playing a video game. Now, what can be more exciting and fun than that? Losing weight while playing a video game? This is some story that is worth listening to.
This typical teenage girl makes use of her time at the arcade to lose weight. She started playing a popular video game called "Dance Dance Revolution (DDR)" at the age of 17. At that time, she was a senior in high school and weighed about 235 lbs, pretty overweight for a teenage girl. But after four and a half years of playing the said video game, she now weigh about 140 lbs.
She couldn't even imagine just how much a video game would come to affect her health and weight concerns with positive results. The said video game even helped her grow to be a better and more self-confident teen. Before discovering the video game, she was a rather inactive person not used to go about doing such activities.
Although she was active as a member in different bands, orchestras, drama, and had already played video games, she didn't regularly get out for exercise. She became really unhappy when she realized that she was at an unhealthy weight. Just as what happens with most obese people, she started losing hope that she will ever be a normal person again when faced with the fact that she had so much weight to lose. The Internet became a form of escapism so that she didn't have to face people in person because of her overweight condition.
In college, she became increasingly unhappy being in a new environment and her weight continued to yo-yo, usually staying at around 235 lbs. Sometime around October of 2002, a fun new game version of a game called DDR USA was released that contained a ton of new songs to dance to. She tried the game out and soon became addicted to the video game with a high activity rate. Not long after, she began frequenting the video arcade almost everyday playing the video game for hours and hours.
At one point, she came to discover a website which had a Bulletin Board where people would meet online and talk about DDR and music games and she quickly became friends with the regulars. She was able to get to know friends who were able to motivate her to play more frequently and for hours at a time. It was during around this time she began losing most of her weight.
In her first six months of playing, she was able to lose 45 lbs with no change in her diet whatsoever. Once she discovered that she can find herself at a more comfortable weight again, she decided to make healthy changes in her life such as following a more healthy diet. She became more conscious of what she ate and as a result, lost an additional 20 lbs.
Playing the game regularly and coupled with a healthy diet has allowed her to maintain a healthier weight than she ever thought possible. All because she was able to enjoy losing weight by playing a video game that changed her life.

You, Your Brand, And Your Service Are Your Competitive Advantage
There are three essentials for a business which comprise the factors of creating and maintaining an Extreme Competitive Advantage: You, Your Brand, and How Your Product/Service is a Solution.
You are The Star. You bring to your business what you have created, accomplished, or overcome. You are the reason your business exists, whether you are selling a service, information, or a gadget. If you aren't in the equation, your business won't exist.
Your brand is Your Story. Years ago, just out of college in my first writing job, a colleague was lamenting that she would never be able to write a book because all of the good ideas had already been written about. While there is some truth to that, everybody's story is different, and how you present it will be different, too. Your story, your brand will be unique because you are unique. So when you start thinking about your brand, look at your story. What makes it different? What makes you different? Bring that to your business and you will see your brand develop.
Your product or service is The Solution. When you weave the star and the story together, you create and maintain extreme competitive advantage as a support for your solution; it requires looking at several levels of your business, from branding and marketing to product development and R&D, budgeting your resources and staying nimble in your decision-making---in short, developing your Extreme Competitive Advantage. Here are six things to consider as you bring your Star, Story, and Solution to life:
1. Have a profound reason for your business. The fact is, like a book theme, there aren't a lot of segments in business that need more offerings. As a result, you will need to look for either a trend-related reason to be in business or for a service advantage that you can provide. What do you know that someone might need or desire that they can't find anywhere else? What service do you provide that sets you apart from anything that is currently available? How can you position yourself to be distinct in your market?
2. Create Strong Positioning. Stand out from your competitors. Be clear and dramatic, dynamic and different. What sets you apart? What do you offer that makes people take notice of you and your business? What is the best way of making the presentation of your solution to the world? Everything you do establishes your brand. Look at companies with strong brand appeal. You notice them because they offer something different, or they say it in a way that the market notices.
3. Develop and Continue to Create Unique Assets. We're all very familiar with the iPod. It's revolutionized how we listen to music, added another tool to share information, and changed how people view Apple as an innovative technology company. For a short time, Apple relied heavily on this unique asset to give them a competitive advantage. However, within months, many mp3 players became available from other companies. So, they came out with other models to cover more of the market; they added new features; they continued to develop new products. Now they've developed the iPhone. What Apple knows is that although they have a unique asset, their competitive advantage will go away over time. They need to continually develop new ones to maintain their competitive advantage.
4. Maintain an Economic Advantage. This is a key area that too many businesses lack. You must be able to outspend your competitors and still maintain profitability. Pricing is important, as is perceived value to the customer. The more unique your offering, whether it is service or a product, the more ability you'll have to offer products for premium prices and bigger margins, ultimately attracting customers for whom price is not a factor.
5. Build Complex Business Systems. Systems are very important for the flow of your business. Another way they are important is that the more complicated they are, the less likely it is that your competition will copy them, allowing you to maintain your competitive advantage.
6. Use Speed and Agility. You must be mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially agile to maintain your competitive advantage. Staying a step ahead of your competition requires you to be at your best in all areas.
As you build your business, support The Star, Story, and Solution with these six aspects of creating and maintaining a competitive advantage and you will move ever closer to the Success Phenomenon.

Financial Education For Children's Success - 8 Unique Ways To Introduce Children To Entrepreneurship
1. Story Time
A great way to get your child started is by sharing with them inspiring stories of kids today, who are already entrepreneurs. The internet is a great resource, making available great stories about kid entrepreneurs from around the world, what they are doing right now and how they are doing it. When sharing inspiring kid entrepreneur stories ask your children questions like: How did they do that? Why did they do it? Do you think you can do something like that? What makes you feel that way? If you get an answer like "I cant do that," then just follow up with "Well, if you could do that, how would you do it?" This usually gets an answer. Oh, and don't forget to show your kids pictures, watch video's or check out news clips of kid entrepreneur's. Its also quite effective when kids hear the stories right from another kids mouth.
2. Field Trip Fun
Contact local businesses, churches or news agencies to see if you could arrange for your kids to visit with them and get a behind the scenes look at how the particular business operates. Approach businesses that hold a high interest level for your kids. Let the places know that your interested in a behind the scenes look at their business operations for your children and their friends who are learning about entrepreneurship. I highly recommend that you bring your children's friends too, so you all can enjoy the experience together and so that your child has like minded individuals to discuss their findings with.
3. Raising Some Bucks
Have a fundraiser for a cause that is very important to your child or have them pick products they think they can sell either in the neighborhood or to local businesses. Let your kids bring in some of their friends that want to be a part of the action. Have them brainstorm ideas and narrow the list down to a few that they all agree on. Assist them in organizing the timing and the locations they conduct these "business meetings."
4. Make Planning Fun
Start planning with your kids. For the younger kids create a plan book from scratch, even some of the older kids can get into this too. Design it however they want. They can add stickers or make fancy title pages within their planner. The point here is for them to personalize it as much as they like. You can even pick up an inexpensive planner for their use. Talk to them about the importance of using the planner daily, and getting into the habit of planning for each day the night before. Explain to them how this will start to free up more time for them to do the things they want to be doing, instead of just doing the things they have to be doing as they become more focused. In addition to a planner/goal book, have children create a journal as well, writing down brief entries into a personal journal on a daily basis of things that interest or perplex them is a great way to get them started with being responsible, planning for their future, and allowing them time for natural, real world problem solving!
5. Use Your Imagination
Go online or to your library and search for wonderful places around the globe that you would love to visit sometime in your life. Have the kids look through books or at websites. Take notice as to what types of places intrigue them the most and talk about those places. Ask them what they would have to do in order to get to visit these wonderful places. Have them search how much it would cost to fly there if you were to leave today. What could they do to raise enough money for a trip like that? What other expenses may they encounter planning for a trip to that location? If its something they really want to do have them list it in their journal as one of their goals and then start to list all the things they need to do in order to reach that goal.
6. Break Out the Seasonings
Sharpen you children's sense and general memory by playing memory games/puzzles. Play silly and fun games like "Identify that smell" or "Name that object" where children are paired off in teams and try to identify blindfolded certain odors or identify what object they are touching without being able to see it. Not only is it fun but it will also help enhance the brain performance of its participants. Thereby increasing creativity and problem solving abilities, two key ingredients in becoming an entrepreneur!
7. Don't be shy
I know that there is a lot of old fashioned parents out their that think that the household finances should be top secret and not discussed with children. When it comes to bill time or any time money needs to be discussed, don't be shy. Share with children the expenses and income you manage each month and each year. Show them the bills you pay, how much they are, and when they are due. Explain to them how you make your payments on these bills. If you write checks to pay them, then have them help you with that. If you pay some of your bills online, have them help with that too. Don't be shy, show them how you balance your checkbook and keep track of your finances. If your not sure how yourself, research it online or at the library and learn it with your children. You would be surprised as to how many kids are actually interested in learning how to pay bills, balance a bank account, or even create a budget...and it increases their interest in math by giving them purpose for learning the subject!
8. Try Something Different
Have a "what I want to be when I grow up" party with your child and their friends; where everyone comes to the party as what they want to be when the grow up. Children play the role and parents encourage by catering to the children's needs. You can give prizes to the kids for acting their parts and encourage the role-playing. This will help them see themselves now as they could potentially become in the future, bringing the feelings of success of what it would feel like. By the parents catering to the "grown-ups" needs, the kids get the idea of what respectful/professional treatment would seem like when they actually reach their goals.
Conclusion
These unique tips are a great starting point to introduce entrepreneurship to children. Informing children at an early age about entrepreneurship gives them more time to really find within themselves the things that they want to do in life. The things that make them happy. Many successful people agree that part of success is doing the things you love to do. The more time children get to explore different things (with this future awareness in mind) the better chance they have of finding their true passions and going forward with it successfully.

Writing Your Life Story—ten Common Questions
1. What if my life hasn’t been that interesting? What if I don’t have anything original to say?
You could be selling yourself short. Just having the gift of life, with all the tremendous potential that entails, makes the life of each one of us interesting, however ordinary it might seem. In the process of writing, we examine our lives more closely and often realize that seemingly small things might have more significance than we’d thought. And if you’ve written honestly about your life, then what you have to say is original, because each one of us is unique; no one else has exactly the same story to tell. In telling your story, you’re embarking on a voyage of self-discovery that will enrich your book and your life.
2. Who would want to read it? Isn’t writing about myself egotistical?
If you’ve written an honest, vulnerable book, then you’ve tapped into a universal core of feelings that will make it more than just your individual story. Other people will be able to identify with it, and if you’ve written your story well, then it could be a great gift to them. Only stories that are shallowly written or dishonest are egotistical exercise
3. What if I’m not a writer, or not a very accomplished one?
Some people are more articulate as speakers than writers. If you fall into this category, you can hire a qualified person to interview you and write your story.
If you like to write but don’t feel you have enough experience to write a book, you have some options. You can take a memoir writing class; there are some good classes available. If you decide to work on your own, there are many helpful books you could read, such as Turning Memories into Memoirs: A Handbook for Writing Lifestories by Denis Ledoux and Legacy: A Step-by-Step Guide to Writing Personal History by Linda Spense. Another option is to hire a writer to collaborate with you on your book.
4. Would hiring a writer to help me with my life story be expensive?
The cost of the project could be looked at with the perspective of what’s really important to you. Many people feel quite comfortable spending thousands of dollars on a family vacation or a new car. Perhaps writing your life story might be just as important to you as this vacation or new car. Or it could be even more so, because it would leave you with something permanent, a legacy for your family, friends, and future generations, as well as a potentially valuable voyage of self-discovery.
5. Would the story still be mine if someone else writes or co-authors it?
Yes, if the person you hire is careful to maintain your own voice so the story feels genuinely like yours.
6. How long would this project take?
If you’re working on your own, it could take several years. But if you hire a writer or collaborator for your book, then the process will be quicker, maybe even as short as several months.
7. What if I’m nervous about revealing all the intimate details of my life, especially things I’m ashamed of?
Your memoir could be just for yourself, a journey of self-exploration that no one else sees. But if you desire a wider audience, then this is a valid concern. One thought is that you could touch with compassion and your present level of awareness aspects of your life that evoke shame for you. We all make mistakes, and if you can be compassionate about yours, then it will be easier to share these parts of your life with others.
Also, writing involves selection; you can always decide what to include and what to leave out. Through the process of writing, it will be easier for you to decide what’s essential to your story and what isn’t.
8. What if my family and friends get upset by what I say about them? I'm concerned that I might be violating their privacy.
This is a delicate issue. Again, the book could be just for you. But if it’s for a wider audience, then you might need to weigh what’s more important to you, writing your life story or not hurting the feelings of people you’re close to.
If you write as compassionately and honestly as you can about your life and those close to you, then you’ve done your best. The people you’ve written about might see themselves in a new and more empathetic light as a result. Of course, there’s always the possibility they might not. Although your writing may be compassionate, there’s room for feelings of anger too. But if including certain incidents or details would cause more harm than good in your estimation, you can always leave them out.
9. If I’ve forgotten a lot of details about my life, would it be dishonest to make things up?
It would be dishonest to invent incidents that never happened but not to fill in the details of actual incidents as best you can. Very few of us have total recall of all the details of our life. But if we make a strong effort to stick closely to the facts, that’s all we can reasonably do. And in the process of writing, you’ll find that buried incidents and details will surface, one association leading to another.
10. How do I get my book published?
Trying to get your book published by a mainstream publisher could be difficult, as it’s a very competitive process; only a small percentage of books submitted to mainstream publishers get published. For some books, though, this direction might make sense. Then it would probably be best to look for an agent to help you get your book published.
Another option is self-publishing. These days, with advanced technology, a self-published book can look very professional. Also, now it’s possible to print copies one at a time, in response to demand, which helps lower the cost of self-publishing.
